The Grand Empress, the Evil Queen and the Junkyard Pack - Liliane Hunt and The House of Hunt

Greetings from Portland, from a darkening grey sky, with barren trees laden with rain drops and me in the loft looking out past the river and to the trees beyond.  Well my friends, 2015 was quite a year, and this one is shaping up to be even more interesting than the last.

A brief trip to San Francisco in November for some mischief with Folsom Street Fair that is all I am at liberty to say. Oh and, I am excited beyond words, I can say that.

At the beginning of December, we were graced with a visit from the Junkyard Pack, during their anniversary weekend no less. We liked them from the first moment we met and each successive meeting layered upon the next. They are ruggedly handsome in that Pacific Northwest way.  They have excellent table manners, (which I always appreciate) and can hold a conversation that spans philosophy, horticulture, spirituality and dogs. More tails tales of our adventures at Bawdy Storytelling to come soon!

Yuletide festivities at The House of Hunt are cheery; we managed to find most of the décor that somehow made sense to place at the very rear of the storage when we moved last February. So after much digging, and a small amount of cursing, most of the boxes were located.

It is so very important to celebrate the passing and coming of the seasons.  In 2014, the holiday cards made it to the hall table and that was that. So for 2015, it was doubly important to make the effort. Santa Paws was generous thank goodness!  Yule at the House of Hunt - The Grand Empress, the Evil Queen and the Junkyard Pack - Liliane Hunt and The House of Hunt

Apparently I hadn’t been too bad, or perhaps bad in a way he could appreciate. Either way, I was grateful. Thank you Santy Paws.

I also indulged my fetish for table décor. This seems to grow stronger with each passing season, with the acquisition of new pieces to add to my collection. Once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away, there once was a little Liliane who sat down to dinner at her Mumsie Shirley’s table. The home that had medieval bread ovens in the wall, ancient eaves and stone work, and deeds that went back to the 13th century.

As she stared up at the giant pewter stag sitting on the table, little Liliane gasped and said, “I am in a fairy tale and this exists.”

“Show Mumsie Shirley your table!” they all said this Yule.

“No.” I sighed; she is the best, the Grand Empress of the magical sophisticated soirée.  Anyway I eventually relented; she surveyed my work and gave her royal seal of approval. It is not often I hesitate, but before the Grand Empress even the Evil Queen needs a moment to collect herself.

New Year’s Eve I attended a white ball, dressed entirely in black. What can I say, white just isn’t my color, I also didn’t ask if I could bring my dog.

“Madam is that a service animal?”

“Of course it is! After 5 years he handles logistics for my all my events, has rewritten the code for my website at least twice and can somehow (without opposable thumbs) get my hair braided and twisted into a bun. If that’s not service I don’t know what is!”
